My Protein Impact Blend Deluxe

My Protein’s Impact Blend Deluxe protein powder is aimed at those wanting to build size and strength, but also for those who value a better tasting, richer and thicker type of shake.

The Protein

There are three types of protein used in this shake and are present in terms of amount in the order listed below:

  1. Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC)
  2. Whey Protein Isolate (WPI)
  3. Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC)

The whey protein concentrate is the most abundant source of protein in the shake. I cover in more detail what the characteristics of the different types of whey protein in my other article. To recap very quickly, this is the least filtered type which means that it will have the highest levels of lactose, carbs and fats but also a healthy dose of Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) which are essential for muscle building. This protein will be slower to absorb than the isolate but quicker than the milk protein concentrate.

The whey protein isolate has been filtered to a higher degree so as to remove some of the unwanted sub-parts of the mixture, such as lactose. It usually contains a higher level of protein compared to WPC and absorbs faster which means it is ideal for a post-workout shake.

The milk protein concentrate is the slowest digesting of the three protein powders and contains the highest levels of BCAAs, and quite a large amount of lactose, fats and carbohydrates.

The combination of these three proteins makes for a great snack or post-workout powder because it will deliver a steady stream of protein to your muscles. This is exactly what you want to ensure your nutrition strategy is optimal for muscle growth and repair.

The Cost

This is a great value protein powder. It’s at the lower end of the cost in terms of size and strength protein powders, as is usually the case with all of the offerings from the MyProtein range. You get a good deal if you buy this protein powder with some good ingredients so it’s certainly worth considering if you like the sound it.

Mix-ability & Taste

As with most protein powder drinks that are high in protein this mixes very well. There are no lumpy residue bits left on the shaker so you know you aren’t rinsing half of the protein powder away in the sink afterwards.

The taste is very nice. I had the chocolate mint flavour and loved it. I could easily drink that as a snack or even a dessert. It’s rich, sweet and creamy like a smoothie. I’d highly recommend it if you like minty freshness.

Effectiveness

Trying to comment on the effectiveness of a protein powder supplement is always difficult. However, this product contains three sources of protein which are going to help deliver the essential nutrients to your muscles when they need it, both quickly and more long term after your workout.

It contains high levels of BCAAs which are critical for your body to function effectively and you need to ingest more of them if you are stressing your body with hard workouts in the gym.

I believe that this will be a very effective protein shake when used to build size and strength, both post workout and as a snack in the day instead of a high carbohydrate alternative.

Conclusion

MyProtein have successfully managed to make their Impact Blend Deluxe protein powder tastier than the Impact Blend alternative. It has a nicer taste and an added ingredient which result in it being thicker than the very similar Impact Blend mixture. However, this luxurious taste comes at a price and that is that there will be higher levels of lactose and this may cause issues for those who are sensitive to this ingredient.

Overall, I’d highly recommend this product and I would happily have it as my post workout shake.
